Why the Chest Protector Matters: Protecting Young Drivers Under 12

If your driver is under 12, the SMK Race Series at Spring Mountain Motorports Resort - Karting Complex requires an SFI chest protector. It's in the class rules: "Neck brace + SFI chest protector (<12)". For cadet and younger junior drivers, this extra layer is mandatory.

The chest protector absorbs and distributes impact forces to the chest and ribcage. Young drivers have developing bones and softer tissue—a direct impact that might cause minor discomfort in an adult can be more serious for a child. The SFI rating ensures the protector meets a recognized standard. It fits under the racing suit, over the ribcage area, and works in tandem with the neck brace.

Fit is important. It should sit flat against the chest without restricting breathing or movement. For families in Las Vegas, Henderson, Summerlin, and North Las Vegas, Cashed Out Racing carries SFI chest protectors and other safety gear. Browse their safety gear section when you're gearing up.
